Reflections Of Pearl Harbor by K.D. Richardson
About The Book:
"Many baby boomers can recall with clarity how, when, and where they received the news of the assassination of President Kennedy. For their parents' generation, a similar defining moment was the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Richardson has compiled the oral recollections of 160 Americans who describe their varied experiences of and reactions to the "day of infamy." The most chilling testimonies are from witnesses of the attacks: an officer of the Nevada describing the horror of watching sailors blasted off the nearby Arizona; a signalman on the West Virginia recounting the shock as a torpedo attack interrupts his shower. But just as moving are the memories of ordinary Americans who were thousands of miles away from Hawaii when they received the news. Many were only vaguely aware of where Pearl Harbor was located; some understood instantly that their nation was at war, while others failed to grasp the enormity of the attack. A fine re-creation of a seminal moment in our history. Jay Freeman Copyright © American Library Association.
My Thoughts:
Those of you who know me will know what I am going to say. I love this book. It is about our military history. This is part of the war that two of my grandfathers fought in. I love how the author brings so many different perspectives from the people in America at the time. The military personnel, the civilians far away on the other side of the country, and of course, the accounts of the youth. I like how the stories are not in third-person, they are in first-person, right from the storyteller's mouth. That makes it more personal and real. An amazing story, told by all in the book.
