The Underwater Mystery by Helena Long
About The Book:
The Underwater Mystery uniquely combines traditional imaginative child-like characters with a gadget from the computer age. Talking fish, an adventurous octopus, a wise turtle, and a familiar piece of technology come together in this creative, adventure story, colourfully illustrated by Brenna Smith. Children and adults alike have a great time trying to guess what the mysterious object found on the ocean floor is before Arms, Corvi, and Sammy figure it out for themselves!
My Thoughts:
What a great, unique book! I had so much fun reading this to Callan, and discovering the mystery! The book can get a little long for younger kids, like Callan. But we read it in 2 parts just fine. Callan thought he knew what the mystery was all along, until the end, when he figured it out - without Mama's help! A fun book with a different story that I've never heard told before in a children's book. Very nice.
About The Author:
Helena Long is a mother of five and grandmother of two, who has been reading children’s stories non-stop since she first learned to read! She was also the beneficiary of nightly bedtime story readings from her father for many years. She first started sharing her love of stories at around the age of 12 by telling made-up stories and by reading aloud other authors’ stories to her younger brother, and later to children who were lucky enough to have her for their babysitter when she was a teenager. Throughout her high school and university days, Helena continued to read. As well as her course textbooks, she read biographies, self-help books and modern novels, and always found time throughout the year to escape to a Dr. Seuss book or Arthur Ransom’s Swallows and Amazons series or the Prince Edward Island so eloquently described by Lucy Maud Montgomery. When she started having children of her own, she discovered Robert Muncsh and Stan and Jan Berenstain.
